Riverside Cemetery Tour planned Sunday

Posted

A guided bus tour of Riverside Cemtery is planned at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 11.

Participants are asked to gather at the Oddfellow Lodge, 909 21st St. S.E., at or before 1:30 p.m.

Tickets for the tour will be available for purchase at that time, or you can call Betty Dornbush at 605-352-3881 to reserve a ticket. There will be room for 45 participants on the tour.

Volunteer speakers will share information on the following gravesites on the tour:

• May Munson — Madam of a house of “ill repute” in Huron.
• Elias Mason Thomas — who came to Huron in 1883 after teaching at a Native American school in western S.D.
• William Titus — who was one of the first settlers to arrive in Huron by train. He then went on to file a claim on farm ground west of Huron.
• Franklin Brumwell — who ran a flour mill and other businesses in early Huron.
• Charles and Georgia Sweet — circus performers.

Presenters will come onto the bus and offer the life story of the person buried in the graves visited.

Coffee and treats will be available after the tour in the Oddfellow Lodge.
