RAPID CITY — Robert Vernon Miller, 94, of Rapid City, formerly of Canova, passed away Monday, February 4, 2019, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Monday, February 11, at Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Canova Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home in Howard.
Robert Vernon Miller was born May 23, 1924, to Vernon and Velva (Bunce) Miller. He graduated from Canova High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was an infantryman with the Pacific Theater, serving in General McArthur’s guard at the signing of Japan’s surrender.
He worked various jobs in the lumber yard, elevator, drove school bus and was a diversified farmer until his retirement. He was united in marriage to Marie Lydia Hahn January 24, 1947. He was a member of the Canova Congregational Church, the American Legion Post in Canova, and the Freedom Motorcycle Church of Rapid City.
He is survived by his son, Dennis (Diane) Miller of Rapid City; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; brothers, Duane Miller, and Ronald (Joann) Miller both of Canova; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie; siblings, Gerald, Glenda Callies, and Beverly Rapp; and granddaughter, Katherine Marie.
