Things I think that I think

Posted

Lots of things have kind of tripped across the landscape recently and a few of them have lodged in the old hard drive. I find that if I share them, I can simply move past them.
Lucky me; not-so-lucky you.
I think that I think this year’s primary election can’t get here quickly enough.
We don’t get to bother with a primary for local offices here - whether because of happiness with the current office holders or ambivalence over who represents us - but we will get to cast ballots in a governors and U.S. Representatives primary race.
The Representative race has been pretty calm, but Kristi Noem and Marty Jackley in the governor’s primary have been sniping at each other for a few weeks now.
It kinda feels like 2002, when Steve Kirby and Mark Barnett took turns taking shots at each other to the point that Mike Rounds, the believed dark horse in the race, came through the primary with the win.

You could argue that on the whole it didn’t turn out great for the state, as Governor Rounds served two terms and left the state with a sizable deficit.
We don’t have a third candidate in the primary this year. Sigh.
I think that I think it would be beneficial to the country if the White House would install a generator on the revolving door serving as an exit for the line people being fired/resigning from the cabinet. It’s turning pretty quickly - maybe we could help cover electrical costs at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.?
A story from Pierre late last week said a new memo has been discovered that seems to say that North Dakota and South Dakota were intended to be admitted into the union as one state - Dakota - instead of two separate states.
If that happens, we’ll have to refrain from further derision of our new brethren to the north and instead focus entirely on Wyoming. I wonder if we can get a discount on NDSU National Championship apparel now?
I think I think that the President shouldn’t be casting stones. Last week, he derided Amazon for not paying taxes and for using the Postal Service as its private delivery service.
Well, Amazon DOES collect and reimburse sales tax, and began doing so ‘voluntarily’ a while back, on items it sells. If you order something from a second-party seller THROUGH Amazon, however, there is probably no sales tax collected or showing on your invoice.
That shouldn’t matter, because we all know we are required to voluntarily pay the sales and use tax, right? Right? Really?
If Amazon is using the postal service, that is probably business that the post office is grateful to have.
And the President, who famously stated that he was smart because he didn’t have to pay taxes, really shouldn’t be pointing at a successful business model and throwing accusations.
At least, that’s what I think I think.
