PIERRE — William “Willis” Lee Buol, 86, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Avera-St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre.
Graveside services and military honors will be 11 a.m., Saturday, January 6, at the Onida Cemetery in Onida. A fellowship luncheon will follow at the Sully County Phoenix Center.
William “Willis” Buol was born April 20, 1931, in Philip to William and Hazel (Crum) Buol. He graduated from Onida High School in 1949. He attended Southern State Teachers College majoring in pre-engineering for one year.
He enlisted in the Army in 1951, serving during the Korean War. He returned to the U.S.A. in January of 1954 and enlisted in the Air Force in 1955. He retired from the Air Force in May 1978 as a Master Sergeant.
After his retirement from the military, he worked as a field man for the Sully County ASCS/FSA. For 37 years he measured acreage on producer fields and grain bins. He was an active member of the Mason’s for 38 years, a Yelduz Shrine member for 33 years, and with the Yankton Scottish Rite for 36 years. He assisted the Shrine Circus for many years. He is also a non-active lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Buell “Sam” Buol, and sister Patricia Zebroski.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Feigum Funeral Home.
