BROOKINGS — Brookings edged Huron in the season opening gymnastics event for both teams on Monday, but it was senior Erica Zell winning the all-around title for the Tigers. The Bobcats tallied 135.000 points, compared to 118.400 for the Tigers.
“It was a good first showing for the Tigers. We have a lot of work to do but had some positive things happened tonight —we hit some new skills,” Huron coach Julie King said. “Tonight’s meet was a good eye opener as to what the girls need to get done in the gym.”
Zell finished with a total of 34.750 points to claim the top spot, while Brookings gymnastics occupied the next six spots including runner-up Tayla Dobrenski, who had 34.450 points.
Senior Jaci Bankson was eighth in the all-around for Huron with 26.750, followed by teammates McKenzie Paulson at 26.250, Cailey Coss at 25.330 and Adison Gross at 24.800.
