Brandon Valley sweeps Tiger soccer

BRANDON — Brandon Valley recorded a sweep against the Huron soccer teams to open the season on Friday.

In the varsity boys’ game, the Lynx recorded a 5-0 victory.

“The score was a little lopsided tonight but much closer than it appeared,” Huron coach Leah Branaugh said. “The boys did a good job of moving the ball around against a much larger Brandon Valley team.

“Four of the five goals they scored were due to errors on our end,” she said. “We have to communicate more to prevent that from happening.”

Brandon Valley had a pair of goals in the opening half to stake a 2-0 advantage at the break.

“We were short three of our regular starters and we put four freshman in the starting line up,” Branaugh said. “I felt they did a nice job and held their own. Johnson Min, Teh Way Soe and Christopher Dah played a full 80 minute game on defense and I can’t say enough about the effort they gave.

“Eighty minutes of non-stop action is difficult and they really stepped it up when they needed to,” she said. “We need to take more shots in our next game and will work on some of that this week.”

The Lynx tallied a 5-1 win against Huron in the junior varsity boys’ game.

Hei Moo Soe had the lone goal for the Tigers. Jaxon Andru recorded five saves in the net.

Brandon Valley cruised to a 13-0 victory in the varsity girls’ game.

Waj Waj Lin had four saves in the net for Huron before leaving the game with an injury. Baw Law Eh came in and had 14 saves.

The Lynx tallied a 12-0 win in the JV girls’ game. Naw Soe inked 11 saves, while Win Ni had six saves.

The Tigers will make their home debut on Friday with games against Rapid City Central at Tiger Stadium. The girls’ game begins at 4 p.m., with the boys’ game to follow at 6 p.m.
