VOLGA — West Central edged Clark/Willow Lake by a point to claim the girls’ title during the Sioux Valley Invite.

With four of the top 15 runners, West Central finished with 38 points, compared to 39 for Clark/Willow Lake.

Sioux Valley was third at 49, followed by Flandreau at 51, Deuel at 52 and Madison at 122.

Faith Wiese of Flandreau won the girls’ race in 18:33.74, while Maci Licht of Sioux Valley was second at 19:43.49.

Kamryn Nesheim led Clark/Willow Lake at 20:15.54 to finish fourth, while teammate Faith Roehrich was 10th at 21:03.04.

Cadence Bochek and Jennifer Bevers were No. 12 and 13, respectively, for the Cyclones with times of 21:22.35 and 21:25.21, while Emma Bochek was 16th at 21:43.89.

West Central also won the boys’ title with 25 points, while Deuel was second at 48. Rounding out the top five were Flandreau at 59, Sioux Valley at 59 and Madison at 63.

Clark/Willow Lake was eighth at 157.

Jonathon Roth of West Central won the boys’ race in 17:12.91, while Dylan Gerdes of Madison was second at 17:16.68.

The top runner for Clark/Willow Lake was Will Hovde, who was 42nd at 20:52.51. Ayden Peterson was 45th at 20:58.05 and Alex Reil was 49th at 21:38.26.

Area teams compete in Colman-Egan Invitational
COLMAN — Lainey Goertz of Sanborn Central/Woonsocket finished 12th in the varsity girls’ race during the Colman-Egan Invitational on Wednesday at Sunrise Ridge Golf Course.

Goertz was the top area runner with a time of 22:31.22.

Arlington had three of the top six runners to claim the girls’ team title with 11 points. Chester was second at 22, followed by Dell Rapids St. Mary at 30, Centerville at 40 and Baltic at 47. De Smet was sixth at 54.

Emmerson Eppard of Chester won the girls’ race in 19:53.25, edging Abigail Engelland of Mt. Vernon/Plankinton, who finished at 19:53.68.

Adalyn Gross was the top runner for De Smet with a time of 23:09.08 to finish 18th. Cambria Gross was 24th for the Lady Bulldogs at 23:34.27.

Flandreau Indian School claimed the boys’ title with 21 points.

McCrossan was second at 24, followed by Elkton-Lake Benton at 29, Mt. Vernon/Plankinton at 31 and Dell Rapids St. Mary at 37. De Smet was eighth at 74.

Lane McCune of Freeman won the boys’ race in 17:20.30, while Ethan Hartung of McCrossan was second at 17:47.15.

Jordan Botkin was the top De Smet runner with a time of 20:06.32 to finish 20th, while Chase Temme was 27th at 20:35.80.

Jackson Wolter won the junior varsity boys’ race for Sanborn Central/Woonsocket with a time of 19:11.94.
