HURON — The Huron Speech & Debate Team traveled to the Brookings Bell Tournament on Dec. 15-16.

“This is a strong group of interp students and they’ve had many strong tournaments this season,” said head coach Mitch Gaffer. “In Duet Interp, both Huron teams advanced to finals and placed in the top five in a very strong South Dakota field.

“Our Congress entries had a great tournament, finishing with the top  two places in Cameron and Lily,” he added.

Top finishers from Huron were:

• In Varsity Student Congress, Cameron Cutshaw placed first and Lily Halter placed second.
• In Duet Interp, Green Ta Bah and Antony Sorto placed third and Samantha Swanson and Mylie Byrd placed fifth.
• In Humorous Interp, Tessa Gogolin placed fourth.
• In Program Oral Interp, Samantha Swanson placed fourth.

“This was a nice way to end the first half of the season and head into a well earned break,” said assistant coach Laura Iverson.

The team will take a break for final test week and holiday break.  The next tournament for the team will be the Doug Tschetter Memorial Novice Debate Tournament in Milbank on Jan. 6.
