Jolie Palmer honored for volleyball play

MILLER — Sophomore Jolie Palmer of Miller was named to the second team of the Class A all-state team, which was selected by the South Dakota High School Volleyball Coaches Association and announced Monday.
Palmer, a 5-foot-5 libero, helped the Rustlers to a second straight fourth-place finish in the Class A State Volleyball Tournament this season.
“Jolie is a talented athlete and volleyball player. She strives for perfection in all that she does on the court,” Miller coach Linda DeBoer said. “Her quickness and agility allow her to dig all kinds of offensive attacks and serve receive the toughest serves. She works hard to better herself every day and to better the ball from her teammates.”
As one of the team’s top defenders, Palmer amassed 635 digs this year and was able to eclipse the 1,000-dig milestone this season. She also recorded 71 aces on 457 of 497 serving, while having 71 assists on 448 of 452 setting and had a serve receive percentage of 94 on 604 of 643 passing.
“Her versatility and high IQ allow her to also deliver a great second ball when we are forced out of system and to attack from the back row,” DeBoer said. “She is a dynamic player whose ball control benefits our team beyond measure. Her heart and hustle contributed to our success this season.”
Selected to the Class A first team this season were junior Addisen Barber and senior Sidney Oostra of Sioux Falls Christian, along with senior Tevin Erickson of Elkton-Lake Benton; senior Macy Koupal of Wagner; senior Audrey Nelson of Madison; junor Sophi Randall of Dell Rapids; and senior Karly VanDerWerff of Platte-Geddes.
Joining Palmer of the second team were freshman Madelynn Henry of Dell Rapids; senior Dani Highum of Lennox; sophomore Faith King of Rapid City Christian; and senior Mataya Ward of Belle Fourche.
Earning honorable mention in Class A were senior Kenzy Beare of Estelline/Hendricks; senor Ana Egge of Rapid City Christian; junior Charley Henderson of Mobridge-Pollock; junior Bentlee Kollbaum of Elkton Point-Jefferson; senior Lavin Maddox of Sioux Falls Christian; and junior Macy Plucker of Canton.
