HURON — Redfield senior Katie Rozell earned honorable mention on the Class B all-state girls’ basketball team, which was announced today by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association.
Rozell, a 5-11 forward/guard, averaged 17.6 points and 6.1 rebounds this season for the Lady Pheasants.
“She has a high basketball “IQ” and would do whatever was needed for us to be successful. Her offensive numbers speak for themselves, she scores in many ways which made her a tough matchup for opposing teams,” Redfield coach Tommy Gregg said of Rozell. “On the defensive end, her ability to guard all five positions on the floor is something that flies under the radar. Her length, ability to anticipate and basketball “IQ” are things that allowed her to be a very good defender.
“She is very coachable, humble person and left her imprint on our program,” he said.
Rozell, who was a 4-year starter for the Lady Pheasants holds the school record for points in a game with 41.
Katie Vasecka of Tea Area was selected as the Class A Player of the Year. She averaged 22.6 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists this season for the Titans.
