HURON Although it doesnt really seem possible, time is running out to enter the competition at this years S.D. State Fair.
All entries are completed through the state fair website – www.sdstatefair.com – and go the the participate drop-down box.
From there, Open Class Livestock, Open Class Static, 4-H, Education and FFA can all be completed, but be aware, the clock is ticking down toward deadlines for entry.
Here are just a few of the deadlines.
First up, Open Class Livestock – with the exception of sheep – has an Aug. 1 deadline. If you are entering sheep, you have until Aug. 6.
Other Open Class entry deadlines are also approaching.
Arts and photography entries are due July 31 and Horticulture entries carry an Aug. 9 deadline. If you are entering the Winemaking contest, you have until Aug. 17, while professional Floriculture Contest entries are due Aug. 21.
Perhaps you want to exercise your creativity in a different way – by participating in the Turn Your Trash to Treasure contest, and paint a State Fair garbage can.
Register and pick up your can by Aug. 9, at the Nordby Exhibit Hall on the state fairgrounds.
Remember that all entries must promote the fair, 4-H, FFA or be agriculturally based.
And if you havent already done so, advance tickets to the grandstand entertainment are open to the general public and are 20% off through Aug. 28.
The state fair website is the place to go to get tickets to either or both nights of the Red Wilk Construction Tuff Hederman Bull Bash, Aug. 28-29; the Goo Goo Dolls on Aug. 30; Riley Green on Aug. 31; Trace Adkins on Sept. 1 or RED – A Taylor Swift Tribute on Sept. 2.
Tickets are available for individual events, or a package including all entertainment is available, as are daily or a week-long admission to this years fair.
