WESSINGTON SPRINGS The Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central Blackhawks got rolling early and cruised to a 42-6 win over the Lead-Deadwood Goldigger in non-conference football action Friday night.
Offensively, Peyton Eucker ran the ball 13 times for 139 yards and a pair of scores for the Blackhawks, while quarterback Holden Havlik ran twice for 28 yards and was 10/16 through the air for 107 yards and two touchdowns – one each to Ryder Michalek and Bryce Larson.
Grant Edwards had three tackles and three interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown and Karter Mebius had five tackles.
WWSSC also had a 50-yard punt return for touchdown, as it improves to 2-0 with the win.
Stats for Lead-Deadwood were unavailable.
The Blackhawks host Webster Area in Wessington Springs next Friday.
De Smet 72, Garretson 21
DE SMET The De Smet Bulldogs had an explosive offensive effort on Friday, defeating the Garretson Blue Dragons 72-21 in a game ended at halftime due to mercy rule.
The Bulldogs move to 1-1 behind 212 yards and four touchdowns on seven carries by Ganon Henrich. Henrich also scored two 2-point conversions. Slayten Wilkinson toted the ball eight times for 127 yards, grabbing two 2-point conversion receptions, and returning a 72-yard kickoff for a score.
Gannon Gilligan had a strong game on both sides of the ball, scoring a touchdown and gaining 20 yards on four carries while also totaling five tackles, a blocked punt and a fumble recovery on defense. Carter Wilkinson recovered the blocked punt and returned it for a touchdown.
The Blue Dragons fall to 0-2 despite Cole Jessen completing 14 of 21 passes for 177 yards and two scores. Treyton Decker had 77 yards receiving with two touchdowns and Collin Olson returned a kickoff 72 yards for a touchdown.
The Bulldogs travel to Hanson Friday.
