James Valley Christian 64, Mitchell Christian 24
HURON The James Valley Christian Vikings won their first game of the season Thursday night over the Mitchell Christian Golden Eagles 64-24 at the JVC gym.

Jayven Van Scharrel and Jerrad Wallman led the Vikings (1-0) in scoring with 15 points apiece. Gavin Waldner added 13, 10 of which came in the first quarter as the Vikings built a substantial lead and never looked back.

The Golden Eagles fall to 0-1. Silas Holdeman led the scoring with eight points.

The Vikings are back in action Thursday, hosting Ethan.

Wessington Springs 49, Wolsey-Wessington 47
WOLSEY Wessington Springs edged Wolsey-Wessington 49-47 during the season opener for both teams on Tuesday.

The Lady Spartans trailed 17-15 at the half, but carried a 30-28 advantage into the final quarter.

Kerstynn Heim had 14 points to lead Wessington Springs. Ashtyn Weber and Addy Orth each had eight points, while Logan Mohling had seven points.

Shae Uttecht finished with a game-high 26 points to lead the Lady Warbirds. Macy Washechek and Kenli Hooks each had six points.

Wolsey-Wessington will travel to play De Smet on Tuesday.

Mitchell Christian edges JVC in non-varsity game
HURON The Mitchell Christian junior varsity outscored James Valley Christian 8-5 in the second quarter en route to a 19-15 victory on Thursday.

Bekah Strong and Trudie Hofer had seven and six points, respectively, to lead the Golden Eagles to the win.

Autumn Stahl and Rylin Wipf each had six points for the Lady Vikings.

JVC will host Ethan on Thursday.
