To the editor:
During this National Volunteer Week, we recognize and appreciate the many wonderful people who willingly give of their time and talent to various organizations.
The Huron Regional Medical Center Auxiliary is proud to be one of those agencies who benefit from the contributions of its 33 active volunteer members. These kind and cheerful individuals give approximately four hours a week to serve the hospital and patients in the best way possible.
At the Main Desk of the new hospital, volunteers manage the gift shop, help patients and caregivers find their destination, answer questions, deliver flowers and newspapers, plus they fill any other needs as necessary. At the Central Tower front desk, volunteers perform many of the same activities, minus the newspapers. In the Radiology/Lab waiting room, they offer coffee and conversation to patients waiting for various procedures.
The need for more auxiliary volunteers is ongoing! You may sign up for a regular position where you will come in for the same morning or afternoon shift, one day a week. The subs are on call to fill in where needed when the regulars cant fulfill their obligation. Training is provided.
The revenue from both gift shops is combined with the $10 annual dues to provide scholarships for students in a medical related field. The benefits of volunteering touch the lives of the patients and volunteers themselves!
If anyone is interested in more information, please visit either main desk and ask for an application or call Membership Chair Bonnie Sheridan at 605-354-1233. Please give yourself the gift of volunteering. It will change your life in a good way.
