Post 7 faces Sioux Falls West, Renner in twinbills

Huron Post 7 played a busy opening week, finishing with a pair of road doubleheaders.

On Thursday, Huron traveled to Sioux Falls West Post 15 and split the doubleheader, losing 10-0 before winning 10-6.

In the opener, Post 15 pitching kept the Post 7 hitters off the board while putting up three runs in the first inning and scoring in five of the six innings.

Jack Pedersen opened the game on the mound for Huron, throwing 2 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs on three hits and seven walks while striking out two.

Tommie Martin covered three innings of relief, allowing four runs on five hits. Logan Leyendecker came in relief and got one out before allowing the walk-off run.

Bubba Peterson was the lone Post 7 hitter to reach base twice, with two singles. Leyendecker had a double.

A six-run explosion in the fourth inning set up Huron for a victory in the nightcap.

Trailing 2-1 entering the fourth, Pedersen drew a four-pitch walk with one out. He moved to second on an error before Martin walked. Pedersen and Martin both advanced on a wild pitch. Chase Schuchhardt popped out to keep the runners at second and third.

Pedersen then scored on a wild pitch to tie the score at 2-2 while Martin advanced to third. Gabe Waldner walked, and Leyendecker followed with a walk as well to load the bases. Trace Wenz laced a single to right field, driving in Martin and Waldner and moving Leyendecker to third.

A double steal scored Leyendecker and moved Wenz to second. Oakley Anderson walked and then advanced to second on a wild pitch while Wenz moved up to third. Peterson walked to load the bases.

Brady Feenstra drew a walk to drive in Wenz and Pedersen drew his second walk of the inning to push Anderson across the plate.

A ground out by Martin ended the inning, with Huron scoring six runs on just one hit.

Leyendecker started the game on the mound, allowing five runs over 5 2/3 innings on four hits and six walks while striking out two.

Anderson finished the game with 1 1/3 innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits and a walk, striking out one.

Huron drew 14 walks in the victory. Leyendecker led the lineup, reaching base four times with two singles and two walks while also stealing three bases.

Peterson had a double, walk, and was hit by pitch. Pedersen drew three walks. Anderson had a single and a pair of walks.

Wenz had a single and a walk and stole two bases. Feenstra drew two walks. Martin also drew two walks and added a steal. Cooper Bischoff and Waldner each stole a base.

Post 7 fell in shutout fashion in the opener against Renner on Saturday again, and this time, the offensive bounceback was not enough as Renner Post 307 swept the doubleheader, 10-0 and 14-9.

Layne Wenzel started the opener, and Renner got to him early, scoring four runs in the first inning as Wenzel allowed eight runs (four earned) over three innings on seven hits and two walks. Wenzel struck out three.

Martin finished the game with one inning on the mound, allowing two runs on three hits.

Bischoff was the lone Post 7 hitter to reach base twice, with a single and a walk.

The middle innings turned into a scoring spree in the second game, as the two teams combined for 16 runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Huron trailed 4-2 heading into the top of the fourth but scored four runs to take a 6-4 lead only to have Post 307 score three in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead, 7-6. Post 7 would score three in the top of the fifth to again claim the lead, 9-7, but Renner scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead for good.

Peterson opened the game on the mound, allowing seven runs on five hits and three walks, striking out four. Martin pitched an inning of relief, allowing six runs, though just one earned, on three hits and a walk, striking out one. Anderson closed the game, allowing one run on one hit over an inning.

Post 7 had 23 baserunners in the game. Peterson was on base five times with a single, two walks, and was hit by pitch twice. Wenz clubbed a home run to go with a single and a hit-by-pitch.

Pedersen walked three times. Leyendecker had a single, two walks, and he was hit by pitch. Anderson had a pair of walks and was hit by pitch.

Wenzel had a pair of singles. Waldner nailed a double and Schuchhardt swiped a base.

Post 7 takes a 2-4 record into the Veterans Classic tournament this weekend in Rapid City.

Huron 16u splits with Yankton
HURON The Huron 16u Tigers split a pair of games Saturday against the Yankton Blacksox 16u team at Memorial Ballpark.

Huron took the opener, 6-4. Parker Bischoff opened the game on the mound, going 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on two hits and eight walks. Carter Porisch finished the game with 1 2/3 innings pitched, allowing one run on one walk, striking out three.

Porisch had a home run, single, and a walk, adding a stolen base as well. Landon Hulst had two walks and stole two bases.

Zach Scheer had a triple and a walk. Josh Gilbert had a single and a walk, as did Jimmie Martin. Martin added a steal.

Bischoff and Tyce Huber each stole a base.

Yanktons offense exploded for eight runs apiece in the second and third innings en route to a big 20-4 victory in the nightcap.
Huber allowed 10 runs over 1 1/3 innings on four hits and eight walks, striking out one. Gilbert allowed 10 runs on 2 2/3 innings on eight hits and two walks, striking out one.

While Huron had 10 baserunners, they managed just one hit, killing multiple potential rallies. Ryker Shelton and Nate Gray each had a pair of walks. Shelton added a stolen base. Martin had a walk and was hit by pitch.

Landon Hulst stole two bases as a courtesy runner. Diego Colon also stole two bases.

Huron is 2-2 as they host Aberdeen Tuesday night before taking a week off before hosting Brookings on Tuesday,.
