IROQUOIS Joanne Schlueter, Marilyn Skyberg, and Rita Anderson returned from representing South Dakota at the week-long National Baton Twirling Championships and Miss Majorette of America pageant on the Notre Dame campus in South Bend, Indiana.
They were joined by Joannes daughter and granddaughter, Geanna and Caitlyn DeBenedetti, from Tracey, California. Joanne has the title of Major and is a top official in the National Baton Twirling Association. Rita and Geanna judged several portions of the competition, and all five joined together to direct the Collegiate portion of the National Championships.
They also presented the Aughenbaugh Dynasty Trophy which is given each year to one of the National Champion teams in honor of the baton twirling legacy of the Aughenbaugh family.
Thousands of baton twirlers from across the nation and Canada competed in the individual and team competition.
