Crowns awarded at Miss State Fair competition

HURON One of the traditions of the South Dakota State Fair is to gather in the Farm Bureau tent on Saturday afternoon, slipping away from the barnyard animals and tractors to enjoy a couple of hours of beauty, talent, and glamour – ending with a few tiaras.

Two of the three defending title winners were on hand as Miss State Fair Jordan Wagner and Miss Huron Jensine Madson emceed the event. Miss State Fair Teen 2024 Taya Ritterbush was unavailable as she was selected as Miss Teen South Dakota, and she and Huron native Jamee Kattner (2025 Miss South Dakota) are in Orlando preparing for the Miss America and Miss America Teen competition.

Talents were shared by the delegates, ranging from dance to song to monologues to unicycling and speed cake decorating.

Three competitors participated in the teen competition, with Jerica Ratigan of Redfield crowned as Miss State Fair Teen.

The Karen Kogel Memorial Congeniality Award went to Adrian Gruis and the Mary Ellen Vaillancourt Kindness Award was given to McKenzie Hassebroek.

The crowning then came among the six contestants for Miss State Fair. Miss Huron was awarded to Laney Titze. Natalie Biegler was crowned Miss State Fair.

The winners will compete in the 2026 Miss South Dakota and Miss South Dakota Teen competition May 28-30, 2026, in Brookings.
