Join the Fun at the Huron Public Library this October!

Celebrate fall creativity at the Huron Public Librarys Scarecrow Festival in Campbell Park! Residents and local groups can showcase their scarecrow displays for prizes, including Best in Show for businesses and youth organizations, as well as the Peoples Choice Award. Winners receive $50 in Huron Bucks.

Festival highlights include food trucks, readers theater, and an outdoor movie (E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial) on October 10 from 5 to 9 p.m., in Campbell Park. Display setup is October 8, and winners will be announced October 14.

Teachers and classrooms can also participate in the Scarecrow Decorating Challenge, with decorated paper scarecrows displayed in the Library windows. Community voting will decide the winners, who will receive a special class treat.

Enjoy the season, vote for your favorites, and take part in this festive fall celebration! To participate, contact the Huron Public Library to register a scarecrow display or to receive a paper scarecrow template for your classroom.

Kids Korner (Birth Grade 3)

The Huron Public Library is excited to welcome families and students to the library in October with a full lineup of engaging programs in the Kids Korner!

Theres something for every age to enjoy:
Bubbles and Books Storytime Join us each Tuesday at 11 a.m. for stories, songs, and bubbles, perfect for children ages 05 and their caregivers.
After the Bell Afterschool Program Our first Early Release program will be on October 1st from 1:30 to 3:15 p.m.! Enjoy games, crafts, and snacks, and every Wednesday after that, well start at 4:00 pm with fun, hands-on activities. Kids can also ride the bus from school to the library on Wednesdays!
Homeschool Book Buddies & Hangout On Wednesdays at 11 a.m., homeschool families can connect through literature-based activities and social time in the library.
NEW! Tots Music Program Children ages 04 and their caregivers are invited to a brand-new music class led by Emily Salinas. This program will be held on the second Saturday of the month. Spots are limited, so registration is required.
Pumpkin Patch Dramatic Play Center All month long, kids can explore the librarys imaginative play space designed to look like a fall trip to a pumpkin patch.

Tweens & Teens (Grades 4 – 12)
Resin Craft – October 16, 4 to 5 p.m.
Back by popular demand! Youth will choose a resin mold and let their creativity shine. The library will provide all supplies, but participants are welcome to bring their own smaller molds and embellishments.

Pixel and Play Family Gaming Night – October 18, 5 to 8 p.m.
Youth in 3rd grade and older, along with their parents, are invited for an evening of video games and friendly competition. Parents can show off their gaming skillsor discover they need a little practice! Families are asked to bring a snack to share; water will be provided.

Adult Activities: The library is offering a full lineup of fun and engaging programs for adults this October!
Harvest & Halloween Trivia Game Night – October 3 at 6:30 p.m.
Test your knowledge in a night of fall fun, spooky questions, and friendly competition! Trivia will cover harvest traditions, Halloween lore, seasonal foods, books, and more. Registration is required.

Monday Movies: Strangers on a Train (1951) – October 6 at 6 p.m.
Join us for a classic Hitchcock thriller on the big screen.

Adult Crafts: Scarecrow Jar Decoration – October 14 at 1 p.m.& 6 p.m. OR October 23 at 6 p.m. Create a cute scarecrow jar to add a festive touch to your fall dcor. Registration is required.

Basic Sewing & Mending Demonstration – October 16 at 6 p.m.
Learn simple clothing repair skills in this hands-on class with library volunteer Dayna Winter, a Certified Master Teacher in Clothing Construction with over 40 years of professional sewing experience. Dayna will demonstrate sewing on buttons and fasteners, zipper repair, and mending jeans. Participants are welcome to bring items in need of a diagnosis. Registration is required.

Classical Guitar Concert with Peter Fletcher – October 28 at 6 p.m.
American classical guitarist Peter Fletcher will perform live at the library. Fletcher made his formal debut at age 15 with The Brasstown Concert Association in North Carolina, and the Cherokee Scout praised his technical facilitynuances, poetical phrasing, dynamic and tonal changes, harmonics, [and] cadences. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, he made his Carnegie Hall debut in 2007 and now tours coast to coast. Learn more at www.peterfletcher.com.

Library closures and late opening
The Huron Public Library will be closed on Monday, October 13, in observance of Native American Day. On Thursday, October 9, the Library will open at 10:30 a.m., due to staff training.
