HURON — A trio of area players have been named to the Class B All-State Girls’ Basketball Team, which was selected by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association. Seniors Hazel Luethmers of De Smet and Liz Boschee of Sanborn Central/Woonsocket were named to the second team, while sophomore Jada Baloun of Highmore-Harrold was honored on the third team. Luethmers, a 6-foot guard/forward, averaged 22.2 points per game this season for the Lady Bulldogs. She also had 9.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game, while amassing 69 steals. Boschee, a 6-1 forward, averaged 14.7 points and 10.5 rebounds this season for the Lady Blackhawks. She tallied 79 steals and recorded 39 blocks. “This is a great award to cap off Liz’s illustrious career as a Blackhawk. She has devoted many hours to the game and set a wonderful example to those around her about what it takes to make you successful athlete,” Sanborn Central/Woonsocket coach Krista Robinson said. “This season she had nine double-doubles and one triple double. “She worked hard to elevate her game on the defensive end and rebounding to match her offensive skills,” she said. “What makes Liz truly special is not only is she a talented multi-sport athlete, but she truly is a great kid off the floor. Boschee will be heading to Northern State University to participate in basketball and track. Baloun, a 5-10 forward, averaged 17.2 points this season for the Pirates She also grabbed 8.5 rebounds per game and had 42 blocks. “Jada is a talented and hard working player, who has done very well already as a sophomore,” Highmore-Harrold coach Mike Ring said. “She scored in double figures in 21 of 23 games, had 20 or more points in 9 of them, and had double digit rebounds in 8 games.”
Baloun reached the 1,000-point milestone for the Pirates during the Region 6B Tournament. Senior Jaelyn Huntimer of Arlington was named as the Class B Player of the Year.
Joining Huntimer on the first team were senior Brynlee Landis of Colman-Egan, freshman Peyson O’Neill of Bennett County, sophomore Izzie Eide of Centerville, sophomore Jordyn Scott of Lyman and senior Mak Scott of Lyman. Joining Luethmers and Boschee on the second team were senior Marissa Storm of Ethan, sophomore Reagan O’Neill of Bennett County, junior Braylee Bordewyk of Corsica-Stickney and junior Addison Heinje of Waubay-Summit. Joining Baloun on the third team were senior Taziah Hawkins of Ethan, junior Keeara Oakley of Parkston, junior Berkley Ziebart of Parkston, junior Jacy Wolf of Chester and junior Rylie Peters of Freeman.
