To the editor:
Watching what is happening in this country, I feel the need to respond.
I wonder how President Trump could justify sending Vice President Vance to Hungary to support Victor Orban for re-election at the expense of American taxpayers. Trump seems to support authoritarians and dictators, and at the same time criticizes our democratic allies.
Trump claims to be conservative, but at the same time, our debt is $39 trillion and rising. During his years in office, the debt has increased by nearly $11 trillion. I guess Trump really is the king of debt, because it doesn’t seem to bother him.
It’s probably because he won’t be responsible for paying it. The interest on the debt will be $1 trillion this year, or more than $6 billion per day.
Trump claims the $400 million ballroom and $100 million arch he is proposing will be paid for by donors. It would seem those donors are not giving this money without expecting some of it back with favors and federal government contracts. Who is going to pay for the upkeep on these facilities? He also wants to paint the Eisenhower building because he doesn’t like the color at a cost of $5 million.
The first lady made a statement that the victims in the Epstein case should be allowed to testify before Congress. That is in conflict with the acting Attorney General, Todd Blanche, who says the case should be dropped even though only about half of the testimony about Epstein has been produced. It would seem that someone is still trying to cover up what happened during those years.
Trump and Hegseth are trying to limit the press at the Pentagon unless they are willing to report what they want the public to hear. This seems contrary to American values.
