Huron School prepares for graduation, final week of classes

HURON –– The Huron School District is preparing for graduation ceremonies this weekend, followed by the final week of the school year next week.

Graduation ceremonies commence Sunday, May 17, at 2 p.m., at the Huron Arena. Those planning to attend graduation should be aware of construction on Fourth St. from Dakota Ave. to Illinois St. and plan a route to the Arena accordingly.

The Huron School District released the following press release Friday:

“In preparation for the end of school, the following information should be considered.

McKinley Learning Center: May 19 is the last day for afternoon class, May 20 is the last day for morning class.

Elementary Schools: Report cards will be distributed to students on their last day of school, which is May 20, with an early release of 1:15 p.m. for grades Jr K-5. Students who will be absent during the final day of school may bring a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the school’s office. These report cards will then be mailed to their homes. Elementary buildings will be open through May 28.

Parents with special concerns are asked to contact their respective principal’s office either by phone or with a written note to arrange for a conference. Teachers wanting a conference will contact the parents personally.

The elementary buildings will be open through May 28 and will re-open on July 29.

Elementary registration for students new to the district is August 3 and 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Middle School: Wednesday, May 20th (with an early release of 1:30 p.m.) is the last school day for the Middle School. Report cards will be mailed out after May 29.

High School: Seniors checked out on Friday. Students in grades 9-11 check out Wednesday, May 20; freshmen at 8:30 a.m.; sophomores at 10 a.m.; and juniors at 1 p.m. On May 20, buses will run on early release schedule (1:25 p.m. pick up). No lunch will be served at the High School on May 20. High School report cards will be mailed out after May 29.

The following remain open throughout the summer months: Central Administrative Offices, High School Office, Middle School Office, Office of Special Services, Nutrition, Transportation.”
