HURON — Lana McDaniel, age 79, passed away June 13, 2024 after a brief illness. At Lana’s request no funeral services were to be held. A private viewing with family was held on June 14, 2024. A graveside service will be held at a later date.

Lana Dee Martin was born Aug. 9, 1944 to Leslie and Thelma (Tollefson) Martin. Lana was raised in Bonilla along with her six siblings and graduated from Bonilla High School. After graduation Lana moved to Huron for employment and to be closer to the love of her life, Raymond.

On March 23, 1963 Lana married Raymond McDaniel in Bonilla and made their home in Huron. To this union they welcomed two children, Karla in 1963 and Kendall in 1969.

Lana was blessed with a green thumb and loved getting her hands in the dirt tending to her flowers and plants all around her home. Walking around the home you can see the passion she put into each selection of flowers. She was such a caring person and had a genuine smile for all that she greeted. When her sister Marvella fell ill, Lana signed on to work at the nursing home, even though she was already working at WAPA full-time, so she could be closer to her and assist in Marvella’s care.

Lana’s greatest passion though was her three grandchildren. She loved spending as much time as she could with them and following their activities. She would spoil them rotten every chance she got. Every time she talked about them; she would get teary eyed because she missed them.

Lana is survived by her husband Raymond; daughter Karla (Dean) Weidner; son Kendall; three grandchildren: Teri (Jay) Eichstadt, Lindsey Weidner and Logan Weidner; three great-grand-children: Hadley Eichstadt, Hayes Eichstadt, and Harley Eichstadt; a sister and best friend, Deloris Zender; many nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog Maxwell.

Lana was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Marvella Peterson; her brothers, Ronnie, Wendell, Roger, and Larry.

Arrangements are with Welter Funeral Home in Huron.
