Local teams win titles Tuesday at Webster invite

WEBSTER — The Clark/Willow Lake Cyclone boys’ team and the James Valley Christian Lady Vikings girls’ claimed team titles Tuesday, at the Webster Area Cross Country Invite, contested at the Webster Golf Course.
The Cyclone boys placed all four of their scoring runners in the top 10 on Tuesday, to finish with 16 team points, however it was Kaleb Foltz of Tri-State who was first across the line in 17:27.88, followed by Tyler O’Neill of C/WL. Cyclones Wyatt Anderson and Brady Jordan finished sixth and seventh, respectively, while teammate Gunnar Kvistad was 10th.
Frederick Area was second in the team race and JVC was third, led by Daniel Ayoroa’s 15th place finish. Tobias Arbeiter of Iroquois/Doland finished 14th. Other Heartland area finishers in the top 30 included Dax Frandsen of JVC, 19th; Cooper Pommer of C/WL, 22nd; Monty Gross, JVC, 23rd and Joel Olson, JVC, 24th, while Josias Wiebe of Hitchcock-Tulare finished 29th.
Only two girls’ teams had enough runners to count in the team race, as the JVC Lady Vikings edged Great Plains Lutheran 19 to 20.
Halle Bauer of GPL was medalist in 19:43.80, followed by Madison Zirbel of Dakota Hoills while Abby Hasart of JVC was third. Other JVC scorers included Rhayonna Hood in 8th, while AbbyKate Hamilton was 9th and Hadasah Olson finished 19th.
Other Heartland finishers in the top 30 included Avery Miles of Iroquois/Doland in 14th, while C/WL runner Alicia Vig was 20th and JVC’s Micaiah Brantner was 22nd.
In the girls’ JV race, Clark/Willow Lake’s Cadence Bochek and Hadley Gjerde swept the top two places, with Bochek taking the win. Andie Aughenbaugh of JVC was third and Airabella Deysel of Iroquois/Doland finished 8th. Other top-20 Heartland finishers include Rylin Wipf of JVC, 9th; Reganne Mils of I/D, 12th, Danielle Batchelor of C/WL in 15th and Selby Pekron of Iroquois/Doland in 19th.
Clark/Willow Lake won the girls’ team race with 15 points, Frederick Area was second with 28, narrowly edging Iroquois/Doland, which finished with 32.
In the boys’ JV race, Northwestern finished with 26 points, one ahead of Estelline/Hendricks. Individually, Danile Person of Britton-Hecla won the boys’ race. Iroquois/Doland runner Nathan Enninga was the top Heartland finisher in 7th, while Clark/Willow Lake’s Oliver Reitz was 9th. Tayne Herrmann of JVC finished 13th and C/WL’s Alex Reil was 15th.
