Huron golfers 11th in Brookings

BROOKINGS — Huron senior Mason Rozell led the Tigers in the Brookings Invitational on Monday at the Brookings Country Club.
Rozell shot an 80 to finish tied for 26th in the 104-golfer event.
“He played very well today, but had a couple of tough holes,” Huron coach Chris Rozell said of his top golfer, who was two strokes off his season-best score on Monday.
As a team, Huron was 11th in the 17-team field with a score of 330.

Sioux Falls Roosevelt shot an even-par 288 to claim the team title, while Rapid City Stevens was second at 304. Rounding out the top five were Harrisburg at 308, Yankton at 309 and Sioux Falls Lincoln at 312.
Jack Lundin of Sioux Falls Roosevelt earned the medalist with a 68, which was four strokes under par. He was followed by teammates Garett Everson and Jack Eggebraaten, who finished second and third, respectively, with scores of 70 and 71.
John Young of Rapid City Stevens was fourth at 72, while Ben Daane of Rapid City Stevens, Ethan Vikander of Aberdeen Central and Tyson Kogel of Harrisburg shared the fifth spot with scores of 73.
Marty Boetel turned in a personal-best score of 83 to finish in a six-way tied for spot No. 47 for the Tigers, while Will Smith carded an 86 to finish tied for 57th.
Rounding out the lineup for Huron were Jacob Wehde at 87, Landon Roberts at 88 and Nathan Gauer at 90.
The Tigers will return to action Friday at the Mitchell Invite at 10:30 a.m.
