Kleinsasser, Katz finish third, fourth for Tigers in Class AA

STURGIS — Huron senior Travis Kleinsasser capped his high school career with a third-place finish in the boys’ pole vault during the opening day of the Class AA State Track and Field Meet on Friday.
Kleinsasser just missed claiming the second spot with a vault of 14 feet, and edged junior teammate Matt Katz for the third spot based on jumps.
Nolan Hoback of Harrisburg went 15-3 to win the boys’ pole vault title, while teammate Nick Schirado claimed the second spot at 14-0 based on jumps.
The Huron girls’ just missed claiming a placing in the medley relay. Lexy Gilbert, Gracie Schoenfelder, Tenley Buddenhagen and Sami Shoultz posted a time of 4:29.59 to finish ninth, which was one spot out of the medals.

The Huron girls’ 3,200-meter relay team was 11th. Members of the team were Braylee Thomas, Kayla Schimke, Buddenhagen and Shoultz.
Mason Small was 18th for the Huron boys in the triple jump at 38-0.50, while Ty Evers tied for 20th in the high jump at 5-8.
Brynn Gose was 24th for the Tigers in the girls’ 100 at 13.65.
The finals of the Class AA meet will be held today in Rapid City
