STURGIS — Huron senior Travis Kleinsasser capped his high school career with a third-place finish in the boys’ pole vault during the opening day of the Class AA State Track and Field Meet on Friday.
Kleinsasser just missed claiming the second spot with a vault of 14 feet, and edged junior teammate Matt Katz for the third spot based on jumps.
Nolan Hoback of Harrisburg went 15-3 to win the boys’ pole vault title, while teammate Nick Schirado claimed the second spot at 14-0 based on jumps.
The Huron girls’ just missed claiming a placing in the medley relay. Lexy Gilbert, Gracie Schoenfelder, Tenley Buddenhagen and Sami Shoultz posted a time of 4:29.59 to finish ninth, which was one spot out of the medals.
