Tigers close season at Class AA state cross country meet

RAPID CITY — The Huron cross country teams closed their seasons at the Class AA State Meet, which was held Saturday at Hart Ranch in Rapid City.
The Tigers finished 15th in the girls’ standings with 382 points.

O’Gorman had three of the top five runners to claim the Class AA girls’ team title with 51 points, Sioux Falls Lincoln was second at 56, followed by Brandon Valley at 86; Rapid City Stevens at 99 and Aberdeen Central at 166.

O’Gorman teammates Alea Hardie and Katie Castelli were No. 1 and 2, respectively, in the AA girls’ race with times of 17:58.70 and 18:24.94. Libby Castelli was fifth for O’Gorman at 18:55.31.

Tori Buffington led Huron with a time of 21:04.52 to finish in spot No. 51. Josie Vlieger was two spots back at 21:13.20.

Brooklyn Boetel was 79th for the Tigers at 21:55.55, while Hannah Schoenfelder finished 88th at 22:06.92 and Tatum Peterson was 107th at 23:08.45.

The Huron boys were 16th in the final standings with 418 points.

Sioux Falls Lincoln won the AA boys’ title with 43 points, while Rapid City Stevens was second at 77. Brandon Valley was third at 103, followed by Aberdeen Central at 132 and Sioux Falls Roosevelt at 189.

Josh Martin of Aberdeen Central topped the Class AA boys’ field with a time of 15:55.34, while Britton Elkin of Brandon Valley was second at 15:58.94.

TJ Lien turned in the best time for the Tigers with an 18:09.34 to finish 63rd. Will Radke was 70th at 18:16.15, while Cheech Harman was 81st at 18:41.97.

Rounding out the lineup for Huron were Cameron Cutshaw, who was 95th at 19:12.37; Angel Olivo Porcayo, who was 109th at 19:58.28; Will Knippling, who was 110th at 19:59.01; and Gonzalo Quispe-Laura, who was 113th at 20:19.32.
