Huron hosts Aberdeen in Middle School volleyball

HURON — The Huron eighth-grade volleyball team split matches against Aberdeen Central on Thursday, taking the “A” match 2-1, but falling 2-0 in the “B” match.
The eighth-grade “B” team, which falls to 2-2 with the loss, got six kills and four aces from Aly Davis, to lead the way. Jeselyn Matthews, Kyla Peskey and Adisyn Zavesky each had an ace and one kill. Set scores for Aberdeen wwere 25-20 and 25-14
The “A” match saw Huron taken the opening set 25-23, come up short in the second 24-26, then brought home the win with a 15-5 third set effort.
Jenicie Goergen had nine kills and Chloe Carr added nine. Davis and Hylkton Heinz each had five kills.
Heinz had three aces, Hailey Rogers and Davis each had two aces. The eighth-grade “A” team has a record of 4-0.
The Golden Eagles used set scores of 25-13 and 25-22 to win the A-match.
Camdyn Fuchs had four aces on 10 of 11 serving for the Tigers. Isabelle Kremer and Ava Wambach each had an ace on five and four serves, respectively.
Kremer led Huron with seven kills on 8 of 12 attacks, while Fuchs had three kills on 4 of 6 spikes. Kya Tschetter and Wambach also had a kill each.
Aberdeen Central claimed the B-match with set scores of 25-17 and 25-16.
Kinzey Stiefel led Huron with 4 aces on 7 of 8 serving, while Olivia Purintun was perfect on seven serves with an ace. Allyra Kerlin had an ace on 4 of 6 serving, while Lilliana Miller was 4 of 5 serving.
Judy Tun had the lone kill for Huron on 1 of 2 attacks. Jereian Ferfen was also 1 of 2 attacking.
Huron will host Brookings at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
