Tigers MS gridders split with Pierre

HURON — The Huron Tiger eighth-grade football team posted a shutout win and the seventh-grade team earned a split Tuesday against the Pierre Governors.

In the eighth-grade game, Colton McNeil threw for four touchdowns and ran for another in the Tigers’ 52-0 win over the Govs.

McNeil tossed a seven-yard pass to Trace Wentz, 17-and-18-yard scoring passes to Kolby Hofer and a 13-yarder to Jonathon Peterson and also ran to paydirt from eight yards out. McNeil threw three conversion passes to

Peterson and connected with Hofer on the other, while running for a conversion as well.

McNeil ended the game 14-19 for 118 yards. Gross carried 11 times for 93 yards in the game.

Defensively, Hofer had 11 tackles, five sacks and recovered three fumbles. Gross added eight tackles.
The Tiger 8th graders are in Mitchell on Tuesday.

7th Grade
PIERRE — Huron’s 7th grade team lost an 8-6 decision in a defensive battle. The Tigers’ lone score came on a pass interception return by Riley Winegar.

In the second game, Huron came out on top of a 16-12 score, as both teams found more offense.

Huron scored on another interception return, this time from Blake Ellwein, while Parker Graff added a rushing touchdown and a two-point conversion. Oakley Anderson also had a conversion run.

Huron opens its home season Tuesday when it hosts Mitchell at Tiger Field.
