Wednesday accident leads to multiple injuries and investigation

HURON — At 5:39 on Wednesday morning, the Huron Police Department was called to the scene of a fiery accident at the intersection of 3rd Street Southeast and Frank Avenue.
Due to the nature and severity of the accident, the intersection was shut down for much of Wednesday morning. The investigation of the accident was handed off to the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
According to preliminary information from the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, a Ford Explorer was traveling East on Third Street when a Hyundai car drove through the intersection at Third and Frank at a high rate of speed and collided with the Explorer. Both drivers were taken to HRMC with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. A passenger in the Explorer received no injuries.
Charges are pending as the South Dakota Highway Patrol investigates the accident.
