PIERRE — Huron seniors Bryn Huber and Olivia Rink are both among the leaders after the opening round of the Class AA State Girls’ Golf Tournament on Monday at Hillsview Golf Course.
“Both Bryn and Olivia played great golf today,” Huron coach Chris Rozell said. “They both stayed out of trouble, so it was a good day for Huron Tiger golf.”
Huber, who finished third in last year’s state tournament, was third after the first 18 holes of the 36-hole event this season with a 75.
“Bryn was three over with a double on her ninth hole,” Rozell said. “She had many birdie opportunities.”
Huber sits just fifth strokes behind Allson Meyerink of Mitchell, who leads at the halfway point with a score of 70. Olivia Braun of Aberdeen Central was second at 73.
Rink finished the opening day with a 79, which placed her in a three-way tie for 13th entering the second round.
“Olivia hit the ball solid all day,” Rozell said.
Mitchell lead the team standings after the opening day with a 309, while Aberdeen Central was second at 316. Rounding out the top five in the 12-team event were Rapid City Stevens at 320, Watertown at 325 and O’Gorman at 336.
The final round of this year’s event begins at 8 a.m., today.
