BROOKINGS — Huron had three of the top 15 runners in the varsity girls’ race during the Russ Strande Cross Country Invite on Thursday at Edgebrook Golf Course.

Josie Vlieger turned in a time of 22:50.52, which placed her 10th, to lead the Tigers. Lily Swanson was 12th at 22:55.39, while Nora Pester was 15th at 23:09.99.

Rounding out the lineup for Huron was Hannah Schoenfelder, who was 23rd at 24:21.09.

Tea Area teammates Evelyn DeGeest and Jayna VanLaecken were first and second, respectively, with times of 20:39.90 and 20:57.20.

With four of the top eight runners, Tea Area claimed the girls’ team title with 18 points. Sioux Falls Washington was second at 38, followed by Aberdeen Central at 84.

Brookings dominated the boys’ race, with four of the top seven runners. The Bobcats claimed the team title with 28 points.

Sioux Falls Washington was second at 32, followed by Tea Area at 83 and Huron at 107.

Cole Reilly of Sioux Falls Washington won the varsity boys’ race in 16:07.58.

TJ Lien was the top runner for Huron. He placed 16th with a time of 18:07.51.

Teagan Lien was 22nd for the Tigers at 18:55.91, while James Weir was 27th at 19:58.89 and Angelo Medina was 31st at 20:25.93.

Rounding out the lineup for Huron were Alec Pester and Max Radke in spots No. 33 an 34, respectively, with times of 20:37.28 and 21:38.38.

Next up for the Tigers is the Watertown Invitational on Oct. 1.
