JVC keeps rolling with win against Groton Area

Posted

HURON — The James Valley Christian Vikings soccer team scored early - and often - Thursday afternoon, notching a 7-1 win over Groton Area at the JVC soccer field.

The win moves the Vikings’ season mark to 9-3 and is the team’s ninth straight win after three losses to open the season.

Carson Dorris put JVC up 2-0 at the 15-minute mark, off an assist from Isaac Fast. Groton Area cut the lead in half a short time later and slowed the Vikings’ momentum, but the final 15 minutes saw JVC put four shots in the Tigers’ net. Skylar Thielbar and Kolby VanDerWerff scored goals, both on assists from Gavin Waldner, Fast assisted VanDerWerff for his second goal of the match and when Keeghann Hood put in a rebound, it gave the Vikings a 6-1 lead headed to the half.

Waldner closed out the scoring midway through the second half as JVC put the game in the win column.

Jonah Niederbaumer had eight saves in net for JVC, to earn the win.

JVC travels to Dakota Central on Saturday, then closes the regular season by hosting Mitchell on Thursday.
