Hitchcock-Tulare remains undefeated, wins 281 tourney

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — The 281 Conference volleyball tournament was held Saturday in Wessington Springs, but no team really came close to challenging the Hitchcock-Tulare Lady Patriots, ranked fourth in Class “B” and undefeated.

The Lady Patriots used an aggressive game at the net to turn away the Wolsey-Wessington Lady Warbirds in the title game to move to 23-0.

Set scores in the championship match for H-T were 25-20 and 25-8.

Ella Johnson was excellent on the serve in the title game, going 21 of 21 from the service line with six aces.

Katelyn Schroeder had a strong all-around game, with eight kills on 16 of 16 hitting, an ace serve on 6 of 6 serving, four blocks and 11 digs.

Isabel Gilbert had seven blocks for the Lady Pats, while Gracyn Bixler had nine assists.

The Lady Warbirds fall to 14-4 with the loss. Samara Clemente led on attack with four kills on 17 of 21 hitting. Shae Uttecht had 11 digs to lead the defense, while Kendal Uttecht had eight digs and 10 assists on 47 of 47 setting.

The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks took third place in three sets over the Wessington Springs Lady Spartans by set scores of 21-25, 25-19, 25-19.

The Blackhawks move to 12-7 behind 11 kills from Liz Boschee. Alexa Goertz added nine kills and 20 digs. Kaylie Robinson had three aces, seven kills, and 12 digs.

Kenzie Schley set up the SCW offense with 19 assists while Kali Hofer tallied nine assists.

The Lady Spartans fall to 10-8. Mariah Messmer set up the Springs offense with 22 assists on 99 of 100 setting and added 19 digs.

Ashlyn Weber was 37 of 40 hitting with 13 kills. Kenzie Kolousek led the defense with 23 digs.

Highmore-Harrold defeated Iroquois/Lake Preston for fifth place in three sets, 25-19, 22-25, 25-21.

The Pirates move to 7-12 behind seven kills and four blocks from Jada Baloun and nine kills and two blocks from Addison McDonnell. McDonnell also recorded a pair of aces on 12 of 13 serving.

Lainee Ping was 11 of 12 serving with three aces and added 14 digs and four kills. Brooklyn Baloun was 12 of 13 serving with two aces, recorded 21 assists and led the defense with 19 digs.

Iroquois/Lake Preston falls to 4-14. Hadlee Holt had 13 kills and six blocks to lead the Sharks. She also had 34 digs on defense.
Chenoa Harris had three aces and Kera Dubro served up two aces.

The James Valley Christian Lady Vikings picked up their first win of the season in the seventh place match, defeating the Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders 25-23 and 25-22.

JVC moves to 1-11 behind a strong all-around game from Addison Kleinsasser, who was 6 of 6 serving with an ace, 8 of 10 hitting with two kills, and led the defense with four digs.

Kaitlyn Stahl had two aces on 7 of 7 serving and three digs. Dara Olowu-Davies added two aces on 5 of 6 serving. Nave Gross had five assists on 16 of 18 setting.

The Crusaders (0-18) were led by Ciera Mickelson and Soliel Mickelson with five kills apiece. Abby Hinman had four service aces on 9 of 11 serving. Soliel Mickelson added three blocks and Kennedy Keck led the defense with eight digs.
