Wessington Springs girls win title at MV/P Invitational

PLANKINTON — The Wessington Springs girls’ cross country team edged Mt. Vernon/Plankinton by a point to win the title during the Mt. Vernon/Plankinton Invitational on Wednesday at Fish Lake Country Club.

Abigail Engelland of Mt. Vernon/Plankinton earned the medalist honors in the girls’ varsity race with a winning time of 21:56.6.

Alexis Roesler led Wessington Springs with a time of 25:02.6 to finish third, while Lainey Goertz of Sanborn Central/Woonsocket was fourth at 26:07.7.

Rounding out the lineup for Wessington Springs were Ella Kolousek, who was sixth at 26:41.2, and Masynn Mebius at 30:55.8.

Mya Flemming of Wolsey-Wessington was eighth at 27:02.8, while teammate Alex Hiles was 12th at 29:59.6.

Emilie Lindgren of Sanborn Central/Woonsocket was 13th at 30:21.2.

Hudson Schmidt of Mt. Vernon/Plankinton won the varsity boys’ race in 19:43.0 to help his team claim the team title.

Sam Welsch of Wessington Springs was second at 19:46.3, while Jackson Wolter of Sanborn Central/Woonsocket was fourth at 20:25.4.
Jacksen Carter of Wolsey-Wessington was sixth at 21:20.9, while Ranick Fjerstad of Wessington Springs was ninth at 22:37.8.

Redfield participates in Grandstay Invite
MILBANK — Redfield Pheasants runners participated in the Milbank Grandstay Invitational on Saturday at Whetstone Creek Golf Course in Milbank.

The host Milbank won the boys’ team title, edging out Montevideo.

Madison’s Dylan Gerdes won the boys’ title with a time of 16:40.27.

Payton Moore was the top Pheasant runner, coming in 24th in 19:10.04.

Flandreau edged out Breckenridge/Wahpeton in the girls’ varsity team competition with Faith Wiese of Flandreau winning the individual title with a time of 18:07.59.
