Huron faced Brookings Wednesday

HURON — Huron 13/14U Tigers split a doubleheader against the Brookings Red 13U club Wednesday at Klock Field.
In the opener, Brookings scored a run in the first and second to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Huron was able to get a run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second to get on the board, then put up a pair of runs in the bottom of the third as Parker Bischoff led off the inning with a double to left field. He was moved to third on a single by Quincey Rashaad before Ryker Shelton lined a single to right field that scored both Bischoff and Rashaad.
The two teams then went without scoring the rest of the way as Huron secured a 3-2 victory.
Colt Culver pitched all six innings for Huron, allowing two runs on a hit and five walks, striking out three.
Culver was the long Huron hitter with multiple hits, as he had a pair of singles and stole two bases. Shelton and Joshua Gilbert each had a single and a walk. Gilbert added a steal.
Bischoff’s double was the lone extra base hit for Huron.
Brookings jumped out with three runs in the top of the first in the nightcap and never looked back, earning a split with a 8-4 victory.
Gilbert pitched the entire game for Huron, going six innings, allowing eight runs (four earned) on seven hits and four walks, striking out four.
Sean Janes led the Tiger offense with a double and a single. Bischoff had another double in the nightcap.
Huron (4-13-1) is scheduled to host Brookings 14U on Tuesday.
