HURON – On a day with temperatures well into the 90s and a busy schedule of games ahead for the week, the Huron Post 7 Tigers used five pitchers to take an 11-1 victory over Lake Norden Post 260 at Memorial Ballpark Monday evening.
It was the first game of the year held at Memorial after light poles were changed in the offseason, leaving damage on the infield and in foul territory.
Layne Wenzel opened the game and tossed a scoreless 1 1/3 innings, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out three.
Tommie Martin was in next, pitching 1 2/3 innings, allowing one unearned run on a hit and a walk while striking out two.
Jack Pedersen then pitched 1 2/3 hitless innings, allowing two walks and striking out one. Brady Feenstra relieved him, throwing 1 1/3 perfect innings with a pair of strikeouts. Bubba Peterson closed out the game with two scoreless innings, allowing a hit and two walks while striking out four.
The Huron offense started slow, but picked up steam midway through the game, finishing with 22 base runners.
Trace Wenz, Peterson, and Pedersen each got on base four times. Peterson led the offensive attack with a triple, a double, and a pair of walks. Wenz had a pair of singles and a pair of walks. Pedersen singled, drew two walks, and was hit by pitch.
Cooper Bischoff, Brady Feenstra, and Tanner Gilbert each had a single and a walk. Layne Wenzel walked and was hit by pitch.
Huron (4-12) played a doubleheader on the road against Harrisburg Tuesday and will travel Saturday to face Smittys Legion for a doubleheader.
