ABERDEEN - Huron Post 7 played well but dropped a pair to Aberdeen Smittys on Saturday in Aberdeen.

Huron scored first, putting up a run in the first and second inning, but the Smittys exploded for six runs in the bottom of the second. After Huron took a 7-6 lead with a run in the top of the third and four runs in the top of the fourth, they padded the lead to 9-6 with a pair of runs in the sixth inning.

Unfortunately, Aberdeen put up eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to reach the eventual 14-9 final score.

Jack Pedersen opened the game on the mound, going five innings, allowing six runs on 12 hits and three walks, striking out four.

Logan Leyendecker came in relief and faced five hitters without recording an out. All five runners scored, though only one was earned as the Post 7 defense committed a pair of errors behind him. Tommie Martin closed out the game, allowing three runs on two hits and a walk over an inning.

Leyendecker had a strong day at the plate, with three singles and a walk. Trace Wenz had a triple, two singles, was hit by pitch, and stole a base.

Pedersen had a double, single, and walked. Tanner Gilbert slapped two singles, was hit by pitch, and stole two bases. Cooper Bischoff had a pair of singles while Kolton Ogle had a single and a walk.

The Smittys jumped out in the nightcap and had a 4-0 lead after the third inning. Post 7 would claw back with a pair of runs in the sixth and one run in the seventh but fell short in a 4-3 loss.

Layne Wenzel opened the game on the bump, tossing 5 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and four walks, striking out five. Martin got the final two outs.

Brady Feenstra had a pair of singles and walked. Pedersen had a double and a single. Martin had a pair of walks and stole a base.

Bubba Peterson had a double and was hit by pitch. Gilbert and Wenz each stole a base.

Post 7 will take a 5-15 record on the road Tuesday against Brookings Post 74.
