HARRISBURG — Huron Post 7 received excellent pitching throughout a split doubleheader against Harrisburg Maroon on Tuesday in Harrisburg.

In the first game, both teams were scoreless through five innings.

In the bottom of the sixth, Harrisburg was able to put up two runs to jump out to the lead. Post 7 was led in the top of the seventh inning by Logan Leyendecker, who singled and stole second. He moved to third on a fielder’s choice and then scored on a wild pitch. Huron was able to get one more hitter on base, but stranded him at first base to give Harrisburg the 2-1 win.

Layne Wenzel opened the game on the mound, tossing four scoreless innings, allowing two hits and three walks, striking out nine. Tommie Martin pitched the final two innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out one.

The Post 7 offense was only able to get six runners on base in the game. Leyendecker represented three of those, with a pair of singles and a walk along with a stolen base.

In the nightcap, Jack Pedersen and Leyendecker combined for a shutout as Huron won 5-0.

Pedersen started the game and went four innings, allowing a hit and three walks, striking out five. Leyendecker struck out three in three innings while giving up a hit and a walk.

Tanner Gilbert led a Huron attack that put 12 runners on base. Gilbert had a pair of singles and a walk.
