Huron 16U splits twinbill against Mitchell

MITCHELL – The Huron 16U team split a pair of games Monday in Mitchell, winning the opener 5-3 and dropping the second game by the score of 14-4.

Mitchell got on the board in the bottom of the first in the opening game before Huron responded with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. The visitors added another run in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.

Mitchell stormed back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, sending Huron to its last at bat tied, but the Tigers plated a pair of runs and then closed out Mitchell in the bottom of the inning for the 5-3 victory.

Elijah Shreeve pitched a complete game, allowing three runs on 11 hits and no walks, striking out two over seven innings.

Cooper Bischoff had a pair of singles, a walk, and a stolen base for Huron. Anderson Porisch had a single, a walk, and was hit by pitch. Porisch also stole two bases.

Carter Porisch and Jeremy Hofer each had a double and a single.

Mitchell jumped out early in the nightcap and had a 10-0 lead at the end of three innings. Huron was able to keep the game going by scoring three in the top of the inning, but Mitchell reached the 10-run rule with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the game 14-4.

Hofer opened the game on the mound, allowing nine runs on five hits and four walks, striking out one. Carter Porisch closed out the game, allowing five runs over 2 2/3 innings on six hits and four walks.

Shreeve was the only Huron hitter with multiple knocks, tallying a double and a single. Chase Schuchhardt had a single, walk, and a stolen base. Carter Porisch walked twice.

Nolan Stahly had a double and Gavin Waldner stole a pair of bases.

The 16U team (5-4) will travel to Yankton for the Daryl Bernard Tournament this weekend, beginning Friday, June 21.
