Opening round pairings set for 2024 281 Conference tournaments

HURON — The pairings have been set for the 281 Conference Girls’ and Boys’ Basketball Tournaments, which begin Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Wessington Springs holds the top seed for the girls’ tournament and will face no. 8 Sunshine Bible Academy in the opening game at 3:30 p.m. Friday in Wolsey.

Fourth-seeded James Valley Christian will play No. 5 Highmore-Harrold at 5 p.m., followed by second-seeded Sanborn Central/Woonsocket against No. 7 Wolsey-Wessington at 6:30 p.m., and third-seeded Iroquois/Lake Preston against No. 6 Hitchcock-Tulare at 8 p.m.

Wessington Springs is also the top seed for the boys’ tournament and will face No. 8 Sunshine Bible Academy at 1 p.m. Saturday in Wolsey to open the tournament.

Second-seeded Wolsey-Wessington will play No. 7 Iroquois/Lake Preston at 2:30 p.m., third-seeded Sanborn Central/Woonsocket will play No. 6 Hitchcock-Tulare at 4 p.m., and fourth-seeded James Valley Christian will play No. 5 Highmore-Harrold at 5:30 p.m.

The semifinals for both tournaments will be held Jan. 16 in Wolsey, beginning at 3:30 p.m. The consolation semifinals for both tournaments will be held Jan. 16 at the James Valley Christian gym, beginning at 3:30 p.m.

The final day of the tournament will be Jan. 18, with all games being played at Huron Arena, starting at 9 a.m.

The girls’ title game is slated for 6 p.m., followed by the boys’ title game at 8 p.m.
